made a new banner this weekend, check it out. I had a good weekend, got organized today. I have a little table in my studio that's just perfect for all my bookbinding supplies, I made it up all nice with my sewn books, books I will repair, and supplies. I now have some nice rolls of materials: canvas, embossed velvet upholstery fabric, and faux leather vinyls. I have a new batch of books in the works right now, which I am excited to get putting together.
I have stalled the song production this weekend in order to take care of business. I'm in the process of properly backing up all my song files and organizing my sound samples, etc. and this will be a long process - it will probably take me all week! My computer is starting to run a little slow, so it's about time to protect myself and my work.
So, you probably need a little background here...
My name's James, I'm 30, and I just moved to Victoria, BC, Canada in June 2007. I'm married 3 years now to my lovely wife, and we have 3 crazy cats. I make music on a G4 Mac desktop computer with Ableton Live 6, my 3 guitars, a mic, and a Fast Track Pro, among various plug ins and a growing sample library. I work in the bindery/print shop trade, which I've been in for about 6 years now. I work as a purchaser and production organizer at a plastics/print shop/bindery which is going through a lot of changes since I started there in June. We've moved locations, for one. That in itself was a huge change for the company. I enjoy my job, it has been a good learning experience for me since I started there.
My last job was in North Vancouver, BC, which was a more specialized book binding job. I was working for an older English lady who had bought a book bindery as her first endeavour in the trade. As I always say, there's nothing like diving right in to learn hard and fast, which she did. I loved that job, making books by hand, and repairing valuable old worn books for people. We made books for movies, even. I am not giving up on what I learned from that job. I am going to keep making journals and repairing old second hand books right from home. I am now working on my second batch of home made journals.
It's getting late... I will write some more soon. If this is interesting to you so far, stay tuned. If not, don't worry there's much more to tell you, haha... try reading the next couple posts before you decide whether to stay tuned or not!
Going to bed. Signing off,
DarKsLide
